
MMUST’s Department of Biological Sciences Welcomes New Leadership!
The Department of Biological Sciences welcomed its new Chairperson! The occasion, held at the Department, brought together faculty and staff, led by the Dean School of Natural Sciences, Dr. Joseph Owino to witness the handover from the outgoing Chair- Rev. Dr. Philip A. Ogutu to the newly appointed Chair- Dr. Jackson Cheruiyot.
Addressing the attendees, Rev. Dr. Ogutu highlighted the department’s accomplishments and expressed gratitude for the support received during his tenure. He quoted among his achievements; the partitioning of one of the teaching laboratories into a research laboratory that is intended to develop a Biosafety level two (2) facility. He was also proud of the milestones his team made with regard to the increased development of proposals as well as research funding, and the increased numbers of enrolment and completion rates for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Further, Rev. Dr. Ogutu conveyed his confidence in Dr. Cheruiyot’s ability to lead the Department of Biological Sciences to new heights. He encouraged him to ensure teamwork and enhanced peace and unity at the department.
The newly appointed Chairperson- Dr. Jackson Cheruiyot, a distinguished expert in the field of Biology, while addressing the attendees, outlined his vision for the department. He emphasized his commitment to further the good work begun by his predecessors; enhancing both undergraduate and postgraduate students’ enrolment and completion rates, and ensuring that the department leads in research.
Certainly, this transition signals a new era for MMUST’s Department of Biological Sciences, characterized by a dedication to scholarly pursuits and the holistic development of students.
